First time out

Once you have bought your tourer – the great thing is that you don’t have to travel far for a weekend away. Some caravanners travel less than 20 miles but come back feeling as though they have been miles away from home. It’s best to go somewhere that isn’t to far away, give yourself time to set up the caravan, get the water sorted out and the electrics hooked up. The kids will want to help in most cases too.

Getting a good tow car match can be a crucial factor in caravanning.

If you have an awning then if possible set it up at home to give yourself time to familiarise yourself with erecting it. The best thing is to ask - caravanners are generally a friendly bunch and only to willing to help out. Many new friendships have been formed in this way too. That’s what caravanning can be all about for some.

Book your pitch – and also if possible go and have a ride out and look at the site to see if you like it. Make sure that the van is insured before you head off and make sure you also have all your contents valued up to as near as possible the correct value. Enjoy your caravan and use it, it’s no good sitting on your drive!
