Touring caravan insurance customers planning to take their vehicles overseas this summer have been urged to prepare themselves properly before setting off.
A recent study carried out by Marks and Spencer revealed that just 12 per cent of motorists will read their car manual in advance.
Drivers are advised to plan out their route, keep a guidebook containing local phrases to hand and ensure they have plenty of change for toll bridges.
Andrew Ferguson, a spokesman for the company, commented: "With the recent air travel problems, many people may be looking for an alternative to flying. Travelling by car avoids the risk of flight delays and cancellations."
He added that it is also crucial for drivers to make sure they have breakdown cover.
Meanwhile, motorists have been urged to check their wheels are in good order before making any long journeys this summer.
A study carried out by Micheldever Tyres revealed that 30 per cent of vehicles being brought into the company's flagship garage in Hampshire have at least one illegal tyre.
