More than half of British motorists have had a crash or a near miss while swerving to avoid a pothole, new research has revealed.
Motorhome insurance customers may be interested to learn that, according to a study by GEM Motoring Assist, nine in ten drivers believe councils are not doing enough to handle the problem.
Commenting on the findings, David Williams, the company's chief executive, said potholes affect all motorists.
"Local councils need to take swift action in alleviating this nationwide problem but it is also important for motorists to play their part in reporting potholes to local councils. Potholes are not simply just a nuisance they are a massive road safety issue," he added.
In other motoring news, a recent survey by Kwik-Fit revealed that tailgating is the most hated habit among British road users, with failing to indicate named as the second biggest irritation.
