An increasing number of road users are putting their lives at risk by chatting and texting at the wheel, it has been revealed.
Motorhome insurance customers may be interested to learn that, according to new figures from the Department for Transport, the proportion of drivers seen using their mobile phones has risen from 1.1 per cent to 1.4 per cent since September 2008.
Neil Greig, director of policy and research at the Institute of Advanced Motorists, said it is clear that many people are still choosing to ignore advice offered by the government and road safety organisations.
"The majority of road users deserve to be protected from an irresponsible and selfish minority and enforcement is, in our view, the key weapon against them," he added.
In other safety news, the government recently launched a new campaign aimed at encouraging drivers to wear their seat belts at all times when behind the wheel.
